What is the name of the river passing through Krakow?

Have you ever been to the beautiful city of Krakow? Are you coming to Krakow? Have you heard about the beautiful river that is passing through the city? Of course! But, what is the name of the river passing through Krakow? Have you forgotten? Is the name on your tongue, you simply cannot say it out? Here is the help you need!

The name of the river passing through Krakow is Vistula. That is the name of the largest river in Poland and the 9th largest river in all of Europe. It starts to the south-west of Krakow and goes through some of the largest cities of Poland (including Warsaw) before it ends up in Gdansk. The total length is more than 1000km.

It sounds nice to go on a long river cruise on Vistula through Poland, but unfortunately, that cannot be done. It is possible to go and enjoy a river cruise on the Vistula river in Krakow, and it is nice, but it cannot be compared to the popular river cruises you can enjoy in other Eastern European cities like Budapest (on the Danube) or in Prauge (on the Vltava river).

Unlike Budapest and Prague, the Vistula river isn’t something you will meet as you walk around in the city center. But, in the moment you leave the old town of Krakow and go to the Wavel castle or just down towards the river, you will be able to enjoy a magnificent view. If you decide to go to the other side or to enjoy a river cruise, you can also get a very nice view of the Wavel castle seen from the river itself.

The river has had many functions throughout history, and many battles have taken place around the river. It should also be mentioned that during the Second World War, ashes from the Auschwitz victims were thrown into the river.

Did you know that the Polish people love Kelly Family, and the Kelly Family seems to love their fans in Poland and in Krakow? They are almost returning like as if was their second home, and while most other countries in Europe have to be without the Kelly Family, Poland seems to be lucky again!

On Valentine’s day in 2020, The Kelly Family will come to Tauron Arena in Krakow, and it will be a part of the Over The Hump 25 year anniversary. The concert will start at 20.00 and it will be crowded once again when this cool family comes to town. Some people are sad about how Paddy Kelly isn’t a part of the tour, but still, it will for sure be a great experience for all the fans. Before the Kelly Family comes to Krakow, they will perform all across Germany. They will also perform in Prague in the Czech Republic, but besides that, it is mostly Germany all the time. In other words, you better use this chance if you want to listen to and see The Kelly Family outside Germany!

How much time is needed for an excursion to Auschwitz from Krakow?

Would you like to go to Auschwitz on a day excursion from Krakow? How much time is needed for such a visit? Is it a full-day program, or can it be combined with other activities on the very same day?

As you might know, we can easily help you arranging day-trips to Auschwitz from Krakow with groups on English. This is one of the most popular programs in Krakow, and it is one nobody visiting the city should be without. Maybe you don’t want to visit Auschwitz (which is fully understandable), after all, it is a brutal and terrible place. But still, we are all drawn to the place, and it is such a dark place from the history of man, that we still need to see it and remember it. And yes, that is why visiting Auschwitz is something everyone should do, even if they like the idea of it or not.

But, how much time is needed in Auschwitz?

Most groups tours going to Auschwitz from Krakow last for around 6 hours. This is including the transportation day from Krakow with a bus to the Auschwitz 1, then to Auschwitz 2, before heading back to Krakow once the program is finished. As a result, you spend around 3,5 hours in the actual camps. This is ideal if you come with a group as it will take you through both camps and you will get to see the most important places.

But, if you are heavily interested and want to discover the Concentration Camps on your own, you might want to spend even more time in the camps. How come? If you want to really look carefully at the places, while reading in a local guide book, and taking a deep dive into this dark spot in human history, more time is simply needed. Maybe you should count on spending around 5 hours in both camps.

It all comes down to how much time you would like to spend in the camp, and for how long time you can ponder upon the place and stay in its atmosphere.

But, if you come with a group, you will most likely spend a total of 3-4 hours in the actual camps, and the rest of the time will be spent traveling from Krakow to Auschwitz and back.

But, how old should one be before visiting the Concentration Camps? That is a brilliant question and I will write more about it in another article sometimes soon. But, my private opinion is that as people start to learn about it in school, and/or start meeting with anti-Jewish propaganda around the world, that is when time is getting ready for paying this place a visit!
